H Welcome To Our Site

For our students who have severe language difficulties we see through their smiles and laughter how much they enjoy being with the tutors and other students.   For instance one tried to make contact by touching (with difficulty) the hands of a tutor.  Some also show the help from their peers is very much welcomed and respected.  The participation in the work gives confidence and respect to each student which assists inclusion in the wider society.

1-1 Contact Sessions

The session can include sensory learning: exploring a variety of materials with touch, hearing and smell.  Gentle forms of movement and massage are specially adapted for use with some of our students.  This can vitalise muscles that are contracted or underdeveloped and lead to greater mobility, ease and comfort for the student.
Sensory healing sessions starts from exploration of the simplest of materials such as play doh for the creation of sculpture. This work helps with manual dexterity, observation, concentration, developing imagination and self expression.

Is an exciting and innovative programme for young adults (16 – 24 years).  This is a 2 day programme which consists of 1 day in class and 1 day’s work experience within Orcadia.  The work is in conjunction with Borders College for which they can achieve a certificate at the end of the term.  Subjects covered include: set design, painting and animation.

  • Wednesdays 10am – 3pm – 48 week course.
  • One Day work experience – to be arranged.
  • Borders College assess and reward all achievements.
  • Portfolio of work on completion of the course.
  • Cost £32 per week

The core of Orcadia’s work is that of nurturing student’s creative spiritual and emotional intelligence to enable students to achieve their potential in a safe environment.  Within the Creative Construction programme, students will have a learning bridge of skills within a social setting, which enhances their self-esteem and encourages self-integration into the wider adult world.

Group Workshops

The Group classes are set in a fun and social environment and students who help others in the class gain a heightened awareness of themselves and others.  This leads to a user lead environment.  All the arts at Orcadia can be inter-related, for example music can move into movement.  This encourages students to create their own dance improvisation to a wide range of music.

The music, rhythm and voice work can uplift spirits, encourage laughter and friendship.
