After School Arts Group
For children, this multi-sensory communication arts programme meets a child’s understanding of the world. For example, the textures of the materials that the children work with are given importance. If a child likes a particular texture they may choose to use the texture for making puppets or sculptures or other art work. Through this process of discovery and exploration the children learn about making choices; and learning about choice making impacts on the individual child’s behaviour.
The young children who attend arts after school classes experience communication and behavioural issues. The purpose of the group is to work with the arts and nursery learning techniques to refocus the children.
Behavioural issues are addressed within the Orcadia structures of timeout, listening and observing the aspect of each child’s behaviour. The children use the trampolines before and after each after school session. For the young children this meets their need to play and unwind after school and again after their workshop session. During the trampoline time the children learn about purposive play and social interaction
